CITY GO TOP WITH BIG WIN

Manchester City have leapfrogged rivals Manchester United at the Premier League summit after the big win at the home of struggling West Bromon Tuesday night. Ahead of the game, Manchester City knew that a win would take them above the Red Devils and they were able to achieve their target in style following the 5-0 thumping of the Baggies.

Manchester City were excellent throughout the game especially in the first half, which saw them score four goals without reply. German international Ilkay Gundogan was the star of the show with two goals to take his tally to seven goals in the last eight games in the league.IlkayGundogan scored the opening goal before adding a third goal for the Citizens after the impressive Joao Cancelohad beaten the offside trap to double the advantage for Manchester City. Algerian international RiyadMahrez scored the fourth goal of the game for Manchester City on the stroke of half-time off an assist from Raheem Sterling before he returned to favour in the second half for Sterling to score the fifth and final goal of the game.

Manchester City were ruthless against the Baggies and they managed to achieve this in the absence of two of their best players. Manchester City were without the duo of Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne. Sergio Aguero is in isolation at the moment after testing positive to Covid-19, while Kevin De Bruyne sustained ahamstring injury in the last league game and he’s now expected to miss the next six weeks as a result of the injury.

Kevin De Bruyne was subbed off during the second half of the last league match before the West Brom game, a 2-0 win over Aston Villa at home. With the win over West Brom, Manchester City are one point better than Manchester United having played the same number of games.
